Your venue
We can come to parties in private homes and gardens, parks, or suitable public venues with indoor-outdoor space, e.g. school halls or community buildings and gardens. We’re happy to come to any suitable venue within a 30 minute drive from our SE25 6SZ base. This will incur a small travel fee if the venue is outside of SE19, SE25, SE20 & CR7 postcodes – ask us for a quote.
Option A: Fully Outdoor Parties
For fully outdoor parties, we recommend you use the lovely wooded Grangewood Park, SE25. You do not need to pay Croydon council to host your child’s private birthday party in their (our!) parks, but you should be aware that these are public spaces, so parents/carers must remain present and responsible for their children throughout your party, and we need to work together to treat the park’s with the utmost care & respect. Further guidance from the council can be found here.
At Grangewood Park, we highly recommend using a specific spot under our trusty Giant Pine, which provides great shelter from sun and rain – Mudder Earth has proudly been part of 10 parties and counting in this special spot and we use it all year for countless playdates.
You can book a fully outdoor party with Mudder Earth between 25th April and 26th September 2026.
Unfortunately, like nearly all local parks, Grangewood Park does not have open public toilets, or permit the use of fire.
Option B: Hybrid Indoor-Outdoor Parties
If applicable, we ask that you book the venue directly (for at least 4 hours) after liaising with Mudder Earth on our availability to be your party activity provider. You will have a contract with terms of use directly between yourselves and the venue.
Mudder Earth needs access to the venue 1 hour prior to your party start-time, and for at least 1 hour after our activities end time (you can continue with cake-cutting etc while we begin to clear up). You’ll see that we bring a LOT with us to entertain your little guests, so some parental help with packing up to leave your venue promptly is always hugely appreciated.
Local indoor-outdoor venue options
Recommended: The Meadow and Community Hall at St John’s the Evangelist, SE19
This is Mudder Earth’s autumn-winter home in Crystal Palce for Monday playdates & after school clubs, so works really nicely & smoothly. Find out more about this venue here. It is approximately £150-200 to hire the hall & Meadow for 4 hours, but enquire directly by emailing facilities@sjun.org.uk for availability and a specific quote.
This Crystal Palace venue also offers the option of Mudder Earth adding a fire pit for an extra cost of £50. We will request an additional named adult volunteer to be our named Fire Support Person if you opt for this, as we must never leave the fire unattended.
South Norwood Lakes
The Pavillion Room (The Lakes Cafe when open on some weekdays) at South Norwood Lake & Grounds is £160 for 4 hours. We can do outside activities on the adjoining Green, which has lots of trees. It is not possible to have a fire here.
So, what’s left for you to do?

- Sort/book your venue (see above) and then update us (we can quote for any minor travel costs)
- Complete your booking Party Booking form – it’s ok to add more guests up to 1 week ahead of the party. And pay your deposit to confirm you accept the Terms and Conditions and confirm your party spot.
- I’ll send you a Little Guests Info Sheet to circulate to parents via WhatsApp/email – it’s a light touch way of us capturing required health and safety, dietary info etc., and on the ages or any extra needs of your guests, so activities can be tailored 🙂
- Bring your own birthday cake
- Bring any extra food and drink, being mindful of any requirements from guests (e.g. allergies) and restrictions by venue (e.g. alcohol?). No BBQs are permitted by the council at parks
- Suggest your guests bring their own picnic blankets etc (as you choose) + remind them to dress for the British weather + muddy-painty play.
- Relax! 😌
FAQs
What happens if it rains? ☔️
Playing outdoors in (almost) all weathers is at the heart of what we do at Mudder Earth, and we certainly won’t let a little rain ruin your party! On rainy days at fully outdoor parties we…
Tailor some of our craft activities – to avoid tears over soggy creations
Set up under our trusty giant pine tree – we’ve tested it’s sheltering capacity throughout the winter and are confident we can give you a good party under its ginormous canopy
Remind everyone to dress to enjoy the puddles. At indoor-outdoor parties, we have the option of bringing some elements of the party indoors on rainy days as needed. We will always aim to have at least half of the party outside if possible.
Do you ever cancel because of poor weather?
On some very rare occasions it may be necessary to cancel for everyone’s safety, e.g. if the Met Office has issued a weather warning for electrical storms or high winds. If this happens, you’ll always be offered a reschedule to the soonest suitable date or a refund if you prefer
Do parents have to stay for the party?
Our insurance stipulates that a named responsible adult, previously known to the child, remains present and responsible for the child while they participate in Mudder Earth parties. As such…
For children aged 4 and under, we need the child’s own parent/carer to stay for the party.
For children aged 5-7, it is an option for parents to drop their children at the party, provided that a named responsible adult (e.g. one of the other parents or one of the birthday child’s relatives), has agreed via our booking form to take responsibility for the child’s safety & wellbeing during Mudder Earth led activities. Each adult can be responsible for up to four children aged 5-7 for example (it’s a higher ratio than insurance requires, but we want to make sure little guests have a good time)
Adult responsibilities include guiding and supporting children to have fun, look after themselves, look after each other, and to look after nature. Some Guidelines for Adults will be shared with the Little Guest Info Sheet, with key points recapped at the start of the party.
What if a child gets hurt?
Some risk-taking is inherent in outdoor adventurous play, and the activity lead (Alice at Mudder Earth) has full Paediatric & Outdoor First Aid qualifications, with a well-stocked first aid kit on site.
Mudder Earth will also complete a tailored risk assessment that can be shared with the customer prior to the event upon request, along with Alice Robins (t/a Mudder Earth)’s Public Liability Insurance certificate.
